I think as artists we all have had that "aha!" moment. I think this TED talk is a great example of how that might occur and the process of following where the "aha!" takes you. Let me know what you think about this post (just to see the artwork she has created is worth the view). Does it remind you of a distinct "aha!" memory you yourself have had as an artist?

Thank you so much for introducing me to this artist! Alexa Meade is incredibly intelligent. I was blown away at the fact that she is a self taught artist, because her work displays knowledge of art application and art theory that I would presume someone would gain through art school. She's an excellent public speaker and she exhibits and incredible amount of enthusiasm when she speaks about her work. I loved her Milk paintings! Which one's do you like and why?

I hadn't heard of her before, but after doing some research I came across her work. I love the theory and original viewpoint of her work! And they are visually stunning pieces! I think the milk series are so beautiful too. I'm very drawn to 'Spectacle' as well...it's so dynamic and is one of the pieces that looks the most 2D to me. The mirror distortion pieces are really interesting too...it takes the work to another layer of abstraction. I am not surprised at all by her talent ; ) If you have a passion for something...sometimes that's the only education you need.

Woah! Her work is insane! Like Sofia, I had never heard of her before (and I love TED talks, so I'm surprised I haven't seen this one). As for my 'aha!' moment - I feel like I have that every time I'm working in one of my visual journals. Probably because it's a very free-form mode of art making...no restrictions = lots of 'aha's!'

How fun to have the abundance of 'Aha' moments! I usually get about one 'Aha' moment per piece I'm working on. It's usually that I am trying to figure out some sort of composition dilemma or something else and then inspiration comes to me...it's always the solution that seems 'right' or that was waiting for me to find it. I don't know if that explains it very well, but that is how it feels : )

I think I had the same reaction...it looks like she stepped inside a painting in the image above. She has a really fascinating new viewpoint : )

Hey MB! I think if she just painted any of these pictures on a canvas...they wouldn't be that special. But the idea that she has painted over actual 3D set ups and models, takes her pieces to whole other conceptual place. Glad you enjoyed it!
